MuseLAB’s Mumbai Studio: Bold Take On Design Fantasy

Curious, playful, whimsical, and slightly off-kilter, MuseLAB’s Mumbai studio hums with an energy that defies convention. Once quiet, now brimming with chatter and creativity, it is a workspace where ideas take flight without restraint.

Celebrating ten years of fearless design, the new MuseLAB’s studio in Mumbai is a tribute to its ever-growing collective of artists, dreamers, and creative rebels. From a humble 50-square-foot room in 2012 to their first 300-square-foot office in 2015, every space has been a chapter in their evolving story. The need for expansion led them full circle, back to Prabhadevi, in Southern Mumbai, where history and modernity intertwine.

The new studio is a tapestry of contrasts—rustic yet refined, open yet intimate. Generous windows capture treetop views, while shifting ceiling heights orchestrate an interplay of light and shadow. The result? A workspace that feels like a sanctuary, where daylight is a constant companion, shaping moments of observation and creation.

A Tactile Narrative

Texture and materiality form the studio’s core language. Cool, grainy white walls meet slate-black floors, creating a muted yet expressive backdrop. The previously fragmented layout has been stripped down to an open-plan design, punctuated by live-edge workstations. Every surface invites touch, every corner a curated experience.

At the heart of the studio, a double-height meeting space is crowned by the DNA chandelier, a collaboration with MuseLAB alumnus Jeet Soneji. Right behind, the central workspace unfolds, anchored by a sculptural marble desk. The elliptical wood table by the windows creates a snug corner. It transforms from a dining spot to a hub for spontaneous discussions.

Objects as Storytellers

MuseLAB’s love for craftsmanship finds expression in carefully chosen pieces that dot the studio. Artifacts from MuseMART, a creative playground for design experiments, share space with handpicked objects, each with a story to tell. The design language is layered, personal, and ever-evolving.

A Stairway to Solitude

A sculptural ribbon staircase winds its way up to the loft—a retreat for deep thought, daydreaming, or even an impromptu nap. This elevated nook offers a quiet contrast to the dynamic energy below, reinforcing the studio’s balance between collaboration and introspection.

MuseLAB has always embraced the impossible, the unexplored, the unconventional, the magical.
